چکیده

The overlap formalism of chiral fermions provides a tool to measure the index, Q, of the chiral Dirac operator in a fixed gauge field background on the lattice. This enables a numerical measurement of the probability distribution, p(Q), in Yang-Mills theories. We have obtained an estimate for p(Q) in pure SU(2) gauge theory by measuring Q on 140 independent gauge field configurations generated on a 12 lattice using the standard single plaquette Wilson action at a coupling of β = 2.4. This distribution is in good agreement with a recent measurement [8] of the distribution of the topological charge on the same lattice using the same coupling and the same lattice gauge action. In particular we find 〈Q〉 = 3.3(4) to be compared with 〈Q〉 = 3.9(5) found in [8]. The good agreement between the two distributions is an indication that the continuum index theorem can be carried over in a probabilistic sense on to the lattice.

We consider anomaly free combinations of chiral fermions coupled to U(1) gauge fields on a 2D torus first in the continuum and then on the lattice in the overlap formulation. Both in the continuum and on the lattice, when the background consists of sufficiently large constant gauge potentials the action induced by the fermions varies significantly under certain singular gauge transformations. “...

Strange Mesonic Transition Form Factor in the Chiral Constituent Quark Model

The form factor g (S) ρπ (Q2) of the strange vector current transition matrix element 〈ρ|s̄γμs|π〉 is calculated within the chiral quark model. A strange vector current of the constituent U andD-quarks is induced by kaon radiative corrections and this mechanism yields the nonvanishing values of g (S) ρπ (0). The numerical result at the photon point is consistent with the one given by the φ-meson ...

Quantum Electrodynamics of Internal Source X-Ray Holographies: Bremsstrahlung, Fluorescence, and Multiple Energy X-Ray Holography

Quantum electrodynamics (qed) is used to derive the differential cross sections measured in the three new experimental internal source ensemble xray holographies: bremsstrahlung (BXH), fluorescence (XFH), and multipleenergy (MEXH) x-ray holography. The polarization dependence of the BXH cross section is also obtained. For BXH, we study analytically and numerically the possible effects of the vi...

Exploring an extension of the correspondence between black hole physics and thermodynamics to non-equilibrium processes, we show that the ratio of shear viscosity to volume density of entropy in theories with gravity duals is equal to a universal value of ~/(4π). We conjecture that this value serves as a lower limit on the ratio of shear viscosity to entropy density for all systems realizable i...
